The Midnight Ship (The Book of Exquisite Corpse – Short Story) by Anna Tizard

Magic and monsters, the trappings of the present and the shadows of the past: all of these are confronted by seafaring Elgart, who believed he could live quietly, a fugitive from responsibility.

The Midnight Ship was inspired by the Exquisite Corpse game result: “The perfumed elf swapped boots with the midnight ship.”

Listeners to Anna Tizard’s Brainstoryum podcast suggested the words and phrases that were randomized to create this bizarre sentence using the surrealist word game of Exquisite Corpse. Anna invited listeners’ feedback on the first draft, and the final result is an extra collaborative story that deserved a release all of its own.
