The Spiritual Arts Foundation is a cultural organisation dedicated to exploring, preserving, developing and promoting the relationship between spirituality and creativity.
Throughout history, questions of meaning, purpose, beauty, imagination and human experience have inspired some of humanity's most enduring achievements in art, music, literature, film, architecture and culture. Yet despite its influence, the relationship between spirituality and creativity is rarely recognised as a field in its own right.
The Foundation was established to help address that gap.
Our work is based on a simple observation: spirituality has shaped creative life across cultures and centuries, yet the traditions, ideas, communities and creative practices connected to it often remain fragmented across disciplines and institutions. Artists, researchers, educators and members of the public frequently encounter this subject through isolated works, organisations or conversations rather than as part of a wider cultural tradition.
The Spiritual Arts Foundation seeks to provide a home for that wider conversation.
Through publishing, research, education, cultural production and community-building activities, we aim to encourage greater understanding of the relationship between spirituality and creativity while supporting those who wish to explore it further.
We approach spirituality in a broad and inclusive sense. The Foundation is not affiliated with any particular religion, denomination or ideology. Instead, we are interested in the many ways people have used creativity throughout history to explore questions of meaning, identity, connection, imagination, transcendence and human flourishing.
Our ambitions are both preservative and forward-looking. We seek to celebrate the achievements of the past, support contemporary creative practice and contribute to the development of future knowledge, communities and cultural activity within this field.
The Foundation remains a young organisation, but the tradition it explores is ancient. Across generations and civilisations, people have used creative expression to engage with life's larger questions. We believe this relationship remains as relevant today as it has ever been.
