The Spiritual Arts Foundation ~ Expressing spirituality through the arts

The Spiritual Arts Foundation
Paul Bell

Singer, songwriter and all-round nice guy, Paul wrote his first songs at the age of 8. You’ll be pleased to know he’s improved. Paul loves to take his unique brand of melody, lyricism and acoustic whimsy to different stages all across the country.

Tackling subjects as diverse as the rising oceans, successful long term relationships, procrastination, integrity and knitwear, Paul often finds himself off the lyrical beaten track, carving out a niche as one of the more engaging live performers you’ll come across. Those who’ve heard the moving ballad “Unnoticed” or the now infamous “The need for biscuits” will attest that he is equally at home being silly and sensible.

Paul writes songs that affirm and provoke, raise giggle and a tear, and leave you humming the tunes on the way home. Delivered with trademark wit and warmth and some tasty acoustic guitar playing, Paul is an artist who aims to entertain and inspire in equal measure.

Paul was based in Sheffield from 2008 to 2012 and has recently moved to live near Nottingham, UK. Paul has released four albums – the latest of which is called “Small Town Boy”.

Eurielle

From an idyllic, leafy Yorkshire upbringing and a lifetime dedicated to classical training comes Eurielle.

Eurielle was first identified and mentored by the late Chris Evans (EMI Classical, Polygram, instrumental in Nigel Kennedy’s career) after he witnessed her solo performance at the York Grand Opera House with Kirkham Henry Performing Arts School. At 13, after 9 years of singing, dancing and piano training Eurielle was approached by Sony Music via the Derek Franks Organisation to be developed as a Charlotte Church alternative – an offer which Eurielle turned down in favour of continuing her musical studies and sporting commitments.

Eurielle went on to twice win at The Horse of The Year Show (2000, 2004), and also represented England, winning the "International Working Hunter Pony" competition for three consecutive years.

After graduating from a vocal scholarship with St. Peter’s School in York, Eurielle spent two years preparing to audition for the three major classical music conservatoires in London, and also became a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Eurielle accepted a vocal scholarship for the Bachelor of Music Course at The Royal Academy of Music in 2007.

Under the esteemed, late Noelle Barker OBE at the Academy, Eurielle explored her musical range and started to develop the sound which would later become her trademark – a classically infused but modern musical take on the stories of mythology, legend, fantasy and our own human nature.

Whilst still at college, in 2010, Eurielle was introduced to multi-platinum producer Ryan Laubscher of Inception Productions who had previously worked with Katherine Jenkins, Pixie Lott and Russell Watson. Ryan and Eurielle saw in each other the perfect musical match and they began to co-write and record together. The songs produced to date have consumed thousands of hours of recording and studio time and reflect the musical aspirations of both producer and artist.

To date, Eurielle has released an EP - 'The Incarnation' (2013), two singles; ‘Gold’ (2013), and 'Carry Me' (2014), and in December 2015, her Debut Album – ‘Arcadia’, as well as a selection of official videos, all of which were shot by award winning cinematographer Nick Cooke (Inter Film Festival Berlin, Cannes Corporate and TV Awards, amongst others). Her work has already earned her the recognition and endorsement of BBC Introducing with her song 'Raindrops' being selected several times for airplay in both Essex and Suffolk.

It also attracted the attention of Emmy Award winning composer, John Lunn, who asked her to record the Downton Abbey Christmas Single for 2015, "Nothing Will Be Easy", and one other song, "I'll Count The Days", which is also included on the album, "Downton Abbey - The Ultimate Collection", released on 4th December 2015.

Following the success of this, Eurielle has since been invited to write and record for several more high profile soundtrack projects in 2016, and has numerous exciting collaborations planned with a diverse range of artists and composers. Meanwhile, she continues to write and produce her own music, and has already begun preparations for her second studio album which she hopes to release by the end of this year, or in early 2017…

Molten Meditation (Robin Vincent)

Finding a time and place to meditate and reflect on God's word can be a struggle. So many distractions, so many interruptions, if you do find a moment of quiet all you can hear is the chatter of your own mind trying to contain the day. Molten Meditation wants to help. Our music and meditations are designed to fill your head, to blow away all the cares and thoughts of the day, and allow you to be immersed in sound and scripture.

Beyond personal meditation our music has evolved to underpin whole services and worship events. We've brought explorations of worship to Greenbelt Christian Arts Festival and collaborated on the post-modern sacramental experience of Soul Circus events. As we create more music and more visual interpretations we hope to make them available here. We have a new album under development which we hope will provide the basis of an entire worship gathering and bring with it songs and liturgy for a post-charismatic, post-evangelical and post-christian world.

We currently have four albums of contemplative music to offer and a DVD of a number of tracks accompanied by some original visuals. The first three albums contain long meditations of around 12 minutes each with carefully chosen verses from the Bible threaded through them. The fourth album contains purely instrumental and shorter versions from the other three albums plus some new material. These are particularly good for personal reflection, resting and mindfulness. CD's and DVD's are available to purchase in our shop and all our albums are available through iTunes, Spotify and Proost.co.uk.

There's also a number of free tracks available on this website. If you enjoy what we do and want to support us then please buy CD's directly from us - we can delivery to anywhere in the world. With every CD you'll also get immediate access to mp3 versions to download. If you want to be kept informed of new releases, events and news then please follow us on Facebook, Twitter or join our Mailing list.

If you'd like us to participate in your event or run an evening's meditation then please get it touch!

Garth Hewitt

Garth Hewitt released his first album “The Lion and the Lamb” in 1973, and his newest, “Something for the Soul” in August 2014. In between there have been close to 40 others covering a wide variety of subjects and styles, including two for children and one in Spanish(!),”Moonrise” in 2010 to celebrate 25 years of Amos Trust, “Justice Like a River”, an album of worship songs on justice, and “Liberty is Near!”, a recording of Chartist hymns from the 1840s which Garth put to music.

Touring for 40 years Garth has visited areas of poverty, conflict, deprivation, and disaster, prioritizing friendships with local people and bringing them encouragement, but always returning to Europe and the US with personal stories bringing to life media headlines, keeping individual’s stories at the forefront when newspapers have forgotten, and challenging the privileged to share, and to join the protest against injustice.

Garth passionately believes that it is always time for people of all faiths to speak up and call for justice, reaffirming the dignity, rights and value of each human being made ‘in the image of God’. As part of this passion Garth has written nine books, including his book on the theology of justice, “Occupied Territories – the revolution of love from Bethlehem to the ends of the earth” published in September 2014, of which Garth says, “This theology of action shows the way to a revolution of love and justice, a revolution that is relevant all around the world – a revolution of non-violence, of valuing all people as equal; it’s a call to do justice and to show the values of hope and humanity in whatever situation we find ourselves.”

First and foremost a “troubadour”, Garth has performed in such diverse venues as Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee, rural village Gomathimuthupuram in Tamil Nadu, India, and Changi Prison in Singapore. He has been joined on his records by a wide variety of artists: Bryn Haworth, B J Cole, Jessy Dixon, Sir Cliff Richard, Martyn Joseph, Randy Stonehill, Ben Okafor, Reem Kelani, Penny Cave, Mark Heard, Paul Field, Paul Pilot, Duke Special, Denise Ogbeide and many more including his own daughter Abi and daughter in law Eils Hewitt.

For 25 years Garth was one of the Directors/Board Members of the Greenbelt Festival. He played at the first festival and was then a key member of the board that shaped its thinking and direction. It was particularly through Garth’s influence that it became an Arts Festival with a commitment to social justice.

Until recently Garth has been the Guild Vicar of All Hallows on the Wall in the City of London – a centre for organisations involved in issues of justice and art. He is now an Associate Priest at St Clement’s Eastcheap, the home of Amos Trust, also in the City of London. Garth is also an honorary Canon of St George’s Cathedral, Jerusalem. In 2006 he was given special creditation by the House of Poets in Ramallah, West Bank for his ‘positive attitude towards the Palestinian people and their struggle towards freedom and justice’. He is a Patron of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and in 2007 Garth was given an award by the British relief and development agency Interpal for his ‘longstanding commitment to the Palestinian people through both the relief and awareness work done by his charity, the Amos Trust, and also for his personal commitment through songs and telling the stories of ordinary Palestinians and their daily struggles’. Garth is a regular contributor to BBC Radio 2’s Pause for Thought.

Garth tours regularly – the “Something for the Soul” tour has run throughout 2015 with Garth performing songs from throughout his career including the new album, and reading from the new book. Bookings for the 2016 “Strange Weapons” tour are now being taken.

In 2016, Garth has released two albums and a DVD, including Songs from the Fifth Gospel which is a pulling-together of thirty years worth of songs about or inspired by or written in the Holy Land, Peace at Christmas, a collection of Christmas songs and prayers and Wide Open Arms, a meditational/devotional DVD including questions for small group discussion or personal reflection. You can also now signup for Garth’s email newsletter.

Helen Sanderson White

Helen Sanderson White is a singer-songwriter and composer currently living in West Hertfordshire, UK. She began writing in her teens and to date has released five studio albums. Helen loves to work with other musicians and has collaborated with artists from a variety of genres including Liquidscreamer and Rachael Forsyth. She also writes and records with with dance music producer, Nikki Noodles.

She has been described as a purveyor of beautiful, crafted, thought provoking music and “Fresh, beautiful and profound”. Her lyrics are sung with a striking purity and clarity. Described by Liquidscreamer as, “Beautiful, with just enough of a slight dark edge”, Helen’s songs are not afraid to ask some difficult questions, while delivering memorable vocal and instrumental hooks. Described by Cross Rhythms “Finely-crafted pop songs, driven home by little hooks that get under your skin.”

Her first album “Conversations With The Heart” was released in June 2004 on an independent label and was well received by music lovers. This then led to other albums and EPs such as “Fallen But Not Fatal” (2006), “The Sanctus Project” (2010) and in 2011 she joined forces with Resound Media and released “At Second Glance” which was produced by Andy Baker. In 2011 one of the highlights for Helen was winning the UK Christian Music Award for “NCM Contemporary Artist (England)” which was presented to her by country music legend, George Hamilton IV!

Sirens and Other Mysteries, the new EP from Helen is a slow burning collection of intensely personal tracks. Predominantly led by Helens’ piano and vocals, it also sees her reunite with produce Andy Baker, who has delivered a very slick result. Opener “Without You” showcases a more soul-influenced style than Helen’s previous recordings, featuring some subtle guitar work from Baker that recalls Sade.

Andrew Lobb

Andrew Lobb is an accomplished contemporary folk singer, songwriter and guitarist, who draws inspiration from the beauty of the hills and valleys of Northumberland, Holy Island and the stories of folk from years past.

Andrew's music is a celebration of this unique part of the United Kingdom, its history and its culture - both past and present.

My first CD, ‘Blessed by an Angel’ in 1999, really tidied up and put together thirty years of past song writing, closing the door on a chapter of my life. Once it was published I felt free to pursue my real inspirations within Northumberland, the beginnings of which are shown in Northumbria’s Pride (2000) and Walk With Me (2001).

Streams Of Life: In particular Holy Island has been a special place and it is hard to express it in a song, but I always look forward to its special atmosphere. Pools Of Light: Streams of Life (2003) and Pools of Light (2004) compliment this series of CD’s.

Walk With Me: Both Northumbria’s Pride and Walk With Me are moving towards the special completeness within song writing that musicians look for. I am now more comfortable within my guitar style and feel that the closeness to this land, its stones and heritage comes through.

In The Blood: In the Blood features songs and tales by Northumbrian author and storyteller David Adam and is a departure into folklore. It also features two songs by my sister, a poet and songwriter.

Border Lines: Border Lines is my latest CD, which I brought out in the summer of 2012. The songs are a reflection of Northern Heritage – a contemporary take on the past, and some of the people who lived and worked through those hard times.

Edwin Fawcett

"Lift your eyes and look. Who made these stars, calling each one by name?" - Isaiah 40:26

"This new record Lift Your Eyes is the culmination of three years of personal reflection and of arranging, recording and producing. However, some of the songs were written more than ten years ago, when I was earnestly growing in faith and reading the Bible with a real hunger for the first time, especially the Psalms.

The Psalms provided material I could lend my own voice to, literally and creatively, in encountering God - and these sounds made their way onto my first two CDs Soulpsalms and Stronghold. I have found that the words of the prophet Isaiah, set to music on this new project, have provided something different - a more deeply intimate message from God to me, about God and about me. I have particularly needed, and been nourished by, such a message at this time in my life.

Moving forward, as I continue creating, 'passionately dedicated to the search for new epiphanies of beauty' (Saint John Paul II), I hope that the encouragement I have received from these words will be shared by those who listen."

Jayne Lewis

Jayne Lewis is an accomplished singer/songwriter from the North east of England, but is now living and working as a musician in Dorset. She has been singing since the age of 14, playing piano since the age of 11, and has been trying her best to teach herself guitar since the age of 20!

Jayne has 3 solo albums under her belt. ‘Orange sky’ was released in 2004, after Jayne was signed up by the major Christian recording company, ‘Authentic Media’. This signing was based solely on the strength of a rough demo, which was passed on to the A&R manager there.

Then after a few years, Jayne had accumulated enough equipment, talented friends, and expertise to produce her own second album, ‘Exactly where I am’ in 2009. The D.I.Y label ‘Eclectic Records’ was set up by Jayne and the entire album (except for a few ‘live’ tracks) was recorded in her spare bedroom!

Then, in 2011 Jayne produced (almost entirely D.I.Y) her third album ‘The Ordinary things’. Again, recorded in fox street studios! For more details and reviews on these albums please see the music pages on her website.

Jayne’s performing experience is vast and varied. She toured the U.K for the first time at the age of 14, within the organisation ‘The Continentals’. She toured with them as a solo singer for many years after that, visiting America, South Africa (twice) and of course all over the U.K. At the age of 21 Jayne was asked to be a director of one of these groups.

Jayne also has much experience singing rock and pop, and has toured with rock and pop covers bands. Jayne also performs easy listening and Jazz material, which is mainly at weddings or in other venues such as hotels, bars and restaurants. Obviously her many years of classical training equip Jayne for singing more ‘classical’ repertoire too.

Jayne is also a music teacher and has been teaching music and singing in schools, colleges, theatre schools, and giving private tuition for fourteen years now. Her main field is singing, both individual and group lessons, but she also teaches piano, and has been a lecturer on the Rock and pop music BTEC courses in Further Education colleges.
